MMPR Pop Vinyl Figures: Series 1

toys toys toys

Welcome to my next review, which will be about the first series of the MMPR Pop Vinyl figures, which consists of the White, Red, and Pink Rangers. You can find them at Hot Topic (in-store or online) for approx. $12.50 each. I would assume that they plan to release the Blue, Black, Yellow, and Green Rangers, so maybe we’ll see those in the second series. So let’s jump right in to this review!

Let’s start with the packaging.

Packaging: Front/Back

The front of the packaging has the MMPR logo, right next to the number of the figure in the corresponding line of Pop Vinyls. Each individual packaging for each Ranger has a close-up on the left side, with the figure packaged next to it, and the title underneath. The back packaging shows all of the figures in the series. Above that, you can see the 20th anniversary logo for MMPR, as well as the same close-up on the left side. Each package is exactly the same, except stylized for each Ranger.

Packaging: Left/Right Sides

The left sides of the packaging have the figure title on the back side, with the top of helmets and the figure number on the bottom. The right sides have the same close-ups with a nice, vibrant greenish background. If they release the rest of the team, I hope they use the same design, because it works really well.

Before I move on to the figures themselves, I want to say that I LOVE the packaging. Not only is it simple and clean, but it’s reusable. So, say you want to take them out and look at them one time; you can do just that! The packaging isn’t sealed; it’s open. That makes you able to take them out and put them back in, which is really awesome. This might be just me, but sometimes I get the urge to rip open the packaging. Well, you don’t have to do that with these, which is definitely a perfect option for hardcore MMPR fans/collectors.

Having that said and done, let’s get on to the figures.

I can honestly say that I didn’t expect them to be so…small. Compared to the Tokyo Vinyls, the Pop Vinyls are like the Mini Battle Figures compared to the 4″ figures. Even though they are quite small, which in my eyes is a flaw, these still are great toys, especially if you’re a collector. The details are pretty spot-on, although I noticed a small issue with my Red vinyl. The Power Morphers on their belts are smalls shapes, and instead of having their Power Coin in the middle, it’s just a simple gold circle stamped in the middle. However, my Red vinyl’s “Power Coin” is more towards the bottom and is clearly out of place. You might be wondering why that bugs me. It’s because once I notice something wrong, I can never stop staring at it. I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s had that problem, so if you’re reading this and haven’t gotten them yet, make sure you look at the Power Morpher first! Other than that, the paint looks good. Red and Pink have their Power Blaster on the sides, which makes me wish White had a mini Saba on his side.

Articulation-wise, the only thing you can move is their head, which doesn’t come as a surprise to me because none of the other Pop Vinyls have any articulation at all.

Final Thoughts:

I hope they plan on making the Blue, Black, Yellow and Green Rangers, because I want a complete set of all of them! There are literally Pop Vinyls for everything. Vinyls based on TV shows, such as The Walking Dead, never seem to stop coming. I believe they’re on Series 4 now? Anyways, what I’m trying to say is that if they can keep making them for other shows, they can keep making them for Power Rangers! Just imagine an Alpha 5 vinyl! It would be so cute! And I wouldn’t mind seeing the Megaforce Rangers as Pop Vinyls, because the Tokyo Vinyls look ridiculously buff. Like everything else PR.
