Original Ranger Legacy

In the many years Boom! Studios has had the Power Rangers comic license, they have released a ton of alternate versions of Power Rangers suit, entirely new Power Rangers suits, different characters using Power Ranger suits and even a suit that was never seen in its Power Rangers counterpart season.

In this article, I will dive into every new suit or character introduced in various Power Rangers properties.


Original Rangers


Mutant Rangers
(Commander Crayfish, Blue Mutant Ranger, Black Mutant Ranger, Yellow Mutant Ranger, Pink Mutant Ranger & Green Mutant Ranger)
Season: Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers Season 1

The Mutant Rangers are five Putty Patrollers that are given the Badges Of Darkness to transform into evil copies of the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers. They were led by the monster, Commander Crayfish and gave the real Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers a hard time until Zordon powered-up their Power Weapons. The Yellow Mutant Ranger & Pink Mutant Ranger are destroyed by the Power Blaster while the Black Mutant Ranger, Blue Mutant Ranger & Green Mutant Ranger were destroyed by the Dino Ultrazord.


Dark Rangers

Season: Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers Season 2
The Dark Rangers were a group of five teenagers and new bullies causing trouble around Angel Grove High School. Lord Zedd recruits these five to become his Dark Rangers, evil counterparts of the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers that are powered up by the remaining energy of the Green Power Coin. After Tommy Oliver regains this power, the Dark Rangers break free of their spell and turn over a new leaf.


Wild West Rangers
(Kimberly Hart, Rocko, William, Abraham & Miss Alicia)
Season: Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers Season 2
The Wild West Rangers are the ancestors of the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers that transform to fight Goldar and an army of Z Putties in the Old West.


Ninja Rangers
(Rocky DeSantos, Billy Cranston, Adam Park, Aisha Campbell, Kimberly Hart, Katherine Hillard & Tommy Oliver)
Season: Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers Season 3
The Ninja Rangers are alternate ninja-like suits used by the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers when they get their Ninja Coins.


Shadow Rangers
(Blue Shadow Ranger, Green Shadow Ranger, Yellow Shadow Ranger & Pink Shadow Ranger)
Season: Power Rangers Turbo
The Shadow Rangers are evil counterparts of the Turbo Rangers created by the Shadow Chromite and are made of pure light. They successfully capture their real counterparts and held them prisoner in a cave. After Tommy Oliver is able to figure out the Shadow Rangers are weak to the absence of light, they are all destroyed after their source of light is taken away from them.


Cyborg Rangers
(Red Cyborg Ranger, Blue Cyborg Ranger, Green Cyborg Ranger, Yellow Cyborg Ranger & Pink Cyborg Ranger)
Season: Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue
The Cyborg Rangers are robotic soldiers created by Doctor Harlen that are based on the Lightspeed Rangers. General McKnight attempts to replace the Lightspeed Rangers with the Cyborg Rangers until they are turned evil after being blasted by one of Strikning’s Lightning Spikes, forcing the Lightspeed Rangers to destroy their cyborg counterparts.


Titanium Ranger
(Ryan Mitchell)
Season: Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue
Ryan Mitchell is the son Captain Mitchell that was in a car crash as a young child that Diabolico saved from falling off a cliff. However, due to the deal, Captain Mitchell made with Diabolico, Ryan was brought under the care of Diabolico who trained him to be evil up until his twentieth birthday. On said day, Ryan snuck into Lightspeed Rescue and stole the Titanium Morpher and used its power for revenge. Eventually, Ryan is able to remember what happened that day and leaves the services of Diabolico. As revenge, Diabolico curses Ryan with a Cobra Tattoo that slowly drains his life force every time he morphs. However, Ryan is able to break this curse and shortly after leaves Lightspeed Rescue in order to find a way to seal away the demons.


 

“Pink Wind Ranger”

Season: Power Rangers Ninja Storm
The Evil Space Ninja, Marah imagines herself as a Power Ranger, specifically the Pink Wind Ranger

“Orange SPD Ranger”
(Boom)
Season: Power Rangers SPD
The Gadget Tester, Boom had a dream that he was the Orange SPD Ranger.
He also makes a homemade outfit when he tells his parents he’s the Orange SPD Ranger and A-Squad Commander.

NOTE: The Orange SPD Ranger recycles the helmet from the Space Rangers from Power Rangers In Space, repainting it orange.


A-Squad Rangers
(Charlie, Blue A-Squad Ranger, Green A-Squad Ranger, Yellow A-Squad Ranger & Pink A-Squad Ranger)
Season: Power Rangers SPD
The A-Squad Rangers are the highest ranking team of Power Rangers at SPD’s Earth Branch. They are tempted to the dark side by Emperor Gruumm, who uses them to fight their B-Squad counterpart in the final battle against SPD.

NOTE: The A-Squad Rangers recycles helmets from the Space Rangers from Power Rangers In Space.


Spirit Rangers
(Elephant Spirit Ranger, Shark Spirit Ranger & Bat Spirit Ranger)
Season: Power Rangers Jungle Fury
The Spirit Rangers are three Power Rangers created by the Phantom Beast Generals from the Animal Spirits of Master Phant, Master Swoop, & Master Finn in conjunction with Rinzin and a Crystal Eye. They are originally used for evil until their respective Pai Zhuq Master is rescued by RJ. The Spirit Rangers are then used by the Jungle Fury Rangers to assist in larger battles and also fight in the Final Beast War.


Paleo Rangers
Season: Power Rangers RPM
The Paleo Rangers were designed by Bandai based on the Paleozords and released as action figures for the toy line for Power Rangers RPM.
However, the show passes on creating suits for these Power Rangers due to the diminished budget and Disney pretty much not caring about the show at this point.


Grand Shogun
(Red Samurai Ranger)
Season: Power Rangers Super Samurai
The Grand Shogun is a member of the Shiba Clan and a former Red Samurai Ranger that was able to tame the Bull Zord. His spirit later appears to Jayden Shiba, the Red Samurai Ranger after Cody tames the Bull Zord to entrust his power to the Samurai Rangers, giving them the ability to use Shogun Mode.


Ranger Clone Army

Season: Power Rangers Super Ninja Steel
The Ranger Clone Army are robotic soldiers that are given powers extracted from the captured Legendary Rangers. Lord Draven intended on using them as his personal army when he invades the multiverse but are destroyed by the combined efforts of the Ninja Steel Rangers & Legendary Rangers.


Roxy (Dark Avatar)

Season: Power Rangers Beast Morphers
Roxy is a Dark Avatar created by Evox from the original Yellow Beast Morphers Ranger candidate, Roxy who has the ability to transform into an evil version of the Yellow Beast Morphers Ranger. Roxy is calm and collective compared to Blaze, often calming him down when he gets called out by Scrozzle. Roxy takes advantage of her past relationship with Ravi Shaw, toying with his emotions to obtain a Neural Aligner and attempts to turn the Blue Beast Morphers Ranger into a Dark Avatar. Roxy is offered an upgrade by Evox if she succeeds in obtaining data containing the Beast Morphers Rangers abilities and succeeds in obtaining all three abilities. However, Vargoyle is offered the upgrade instead and attempts to regain his favor by obtaining Mega Transporters from Grid Battleforce, succeeding at this task while getting rid of Vargoyle by talking Scrozzle into de-powering him. Roxy also installs a virus into her human counterparts stasis pod in order to distract the Beast Morphers Rangers while she’s busy enacting Evox’s final plans. She is ambushed by Ravi Shaw however and is destroyed by him after he crushes her Evox Morpher.

NOTE: Roxy’s Armor is a yellow repaint of the suit used for Robo Roxy.


Ghost Ranger

Season: Power Rangers Dino Fury
The Ghost Ranger is a white-colored suit donned by Zayto after he is resurrected from the dead by the Morphin’ Masters to inform his teammates that Lord Zedd has escaped his imprisonment. 


Cosmic Fury Rangers
(Amelia Jones, Zayto, Javi Garcia, Izzy Garcia, Aiyon, Fern & Ollie Akana)
Season: Power Rangers Cosmic Fury
The Dino Fury Rangers are given enhanced powers, becoming Cosmic Fury Rangers when their connection to the Morphin’ Grid, Dinohenge is destroyed by Lord Zedd.

NOTE: These suits were made in conjunction with adapting zord footage from Ucchu Sentai Kyuranger due to that season having too many Power Rangers.


Evil Dino Fury Blue Ranger

Season: Power Rangers Cosmic Fury
Ollie Akana is given a corrupted version of his Dino Fury Morpher after swearing his loyalty to Lord Zedd, giving him the ability to morph into an evil version of the Blue Dino Fury Rangers. These powers are destroyed however after Mucus & Slyther blow up the Tricera Statue from Dinohenge.


Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers (1995)
(Tommy Oliver, Rocky DeSantos, Billy Cranston, Adam Park, Aisha Campbell Kimberly Hart)
Movie: Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers: The Movie
The Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers exist in an alternate dimension similar to the main dimension with the exception of this iteration possessing more armored-like suits. They also fight the like of Rita Repulsa, Lord Zedd and a morphilogical being named Ivan Ooze. They lose their dino-themed powers when Ivan Ooze damages the Command and gain the power of The Ninjetti when they travel to Pheados. 


Power Rangers (2017)
(Jason Scott, Billy Cranston, Zack Taylor, Trini & Kimberly Hart)
Movie: Power Rangers (2017)

The Power Rangers of the 2017 Movie Dimension originate from Eltar and are betrayed by their Green Ranger, Rita on Earth, with her killing all of them before Zordon is able to hide the Power Coins for millions of years. The Power Coins are eventually found by six teenagers from Angel Grove, where they are eventually worth of becoming the next generation of Power Rangers.


Green Ranger
(Rita Repulsa)
Movie: Power Rangers (2017)
Rita Repulsa was once the Green Ranger that fought on the side of good until she was corrupted to the side of evil which inevitably caused her to kill all her teammates. Zordon, in one last ditch effort trapped her in stasis for which he laid at the bottom of the sea for many years. In present day, Rita is scooped up from the bottom of the sea by some fisherman and slowly revives herself by eating gold and finding more gold to summon her ultimate creation, Goldar in order to track down the Zeo Crystal. She eventually finds the location of the Zeo Crystal under a Krispy Kreme and nearly succeeds in gaining its power until she is slapped by the Megazord and hurled into space.


 

Crimson Hawk Ranger

Game: Power Rangers Legacy Wars
Ryu is given the Crimson Hawk Power Coin in the mobile game, Legacy Wars in order to fight evil as the Crimson Hawk Ranger.

NOTE: A live action version of the Crimson Hawk Ranger appears in the short film, Power Rangers Legacy Wars: Street Fighter Showdown.


Blue Phoenix Ranger

Game: Power Rangers Legacy Wars
Chun-Li is given the Blue Phoenix Power Coin in the mobile game, Legacy Wars in order to fight evil as the Blue Phoenix Ranger.


Green Ranger Team
(Jason Lee Scott, Zack Taylor, Trini Kwan & Kimberly Hart)
Comic: Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers
The Green Ranger Team comes to be after the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers uses the Dragon Power Coin as a power source to morph when they are unable to after they a disconnect from the Morphin’ Grid by the Black Dragon.


Lord Drakkon
(Tommy Oliver)
Comic: Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers
Lord Drakkon is an alternate version of Tommy Oliver that remained evil after the Sword Of Darkness was destroyed by Jason Lee Scott. He later leads an army to destroy the Power Rangers once and for all and gained a new form after absorbing a new set of powers meant for Jason Lee Scott. After gaining these new powers, Lord Drakkon took over the entire planet and formed an army called Ranger Sentries. After learning of the existence of a dimension where he turned good, he assists the Rita Repulsa of that dimension by sending her The Black Dragon. When Billy Cranston & Tommy Oliver accidentally travel to his dimension, he attempts to destroy them but is thwarted by Saba summoning the White Tigerzord as a distraction. Lord Drakkon later attempts to find The Coinless’ secret base and nearly succeeds in undermining them until Trini Kwan uses the Blue Power Morpher to strip him of his powers and is presumed dead after he falls from a cliff. However, it is revealed that Lord Drakkon followed the Power Rangers to their dimension but before being able to do anything, is captured by a group of soldiers. It is later revealed that these soldiers were working for Promethea after Billy Cranston finds Lord Drakkon being detained in a secret room in Promethea HQ but is able to escape his prison after Saba accidentally frees him and uses him to open a portal to the Temple Of Power to trick Ninjor into fixing his Black Dragon Coin. After his powers are restored, he travels to Angel Grove to kill and drain the powers from his good counterpart, Tommy Oliver. After returning to his dimension, he gathers up an army of Ranger Sentries to attack the Samurai Rangers and successfully obtains their Samuraizers in order to upgrade his suit. After attacking various worlds and succeeding and failing in capturing Ranger Bases and obtaining morphers, Lord Drakkon decides to prepare a full-scale attack on all the Power Rangers dimensions. He personally leads an attack on Corinth, upgrading his suit again and reveals to have teamed up with Koragg, A-Squad and the Psycho Rangers and succeeds in taking it over. Lord Drakkon, in an attempt to obtain more power, combines fragments of Ninja Steel into Saba to drain Power Rangers of their powers easily. He is severely weakened however when Rita Repulsa uses the Green Candle on him and attempts to gain a more powerful form by fusing all the morphers he’s obtained into him and combining it with the heart of a Morphin’ Master to reform reality to where he is the beloved ruler. However, this doesn’t last long as Tommy Oliver is able to thwart him and is last seen looking depressed as his dream world deteriorate. Lord Drakkon eventually escapes this world and would land in front of the Command Center. After a fight with the Power Rangers, he is captured and imprisoned in the Command Center. After the Omega Rangers learn that Lord Drakkon came in contact with an Empyreal, the Omega Rangers free him in order for him to assist them in tracking down the Empyreals. It is revealed that Lord Drakkon has been working with The Empyreals this whole time, with him help track down the Yellow Emissary in return for re-powering his Power Morpher. After freeing himself from a shock collar thanks to a device he got from Fendrick Prot, he fights Xi and nearly incapacitates them. He then leaves the Omega Ranger on a dying planet while commandeering The Spectrum. Lord Drakkon later travels to Earth during The Eltarian War to assist the Power Rangers by using his army of Horrid to drain the Super Empyreal of his energy. He later travels to Safehaven to release Kiya and travels with her through the Master Arch to return to the Coinless Dimension.


Tyrannosaurus Sentries

The Tyrannosaurus Sentries are soldiers in Lord Drakkon’s Army that wear uniforms based on the MMPR Red Ranger.
The Tyrannosaurus Sentries serve as the Elite Soldiers in Lord Drakkon’s Army and are armed with sword-like spears.


Sabertooth Sentries

The Sabertooth Sentries are soldiers in Lord Drakkon’s Army that wear uniforms based on the MMPR Yellow Ranger.
The Sabertooth Sentries serve as commanding troops in Lord Drakkon’s Army and are armed with dagger-like blasters.


Mastodon Sentries

The Mastodon Sentries are soldiers in Lord Drakkon’s Army that wear uniforms based on the MMPR Black Ranger.
The Mastodon Sentries serve as ground troops in Lord Drakkon’s Army and are armed with blaster-like weapons.


Pterodactyl Sentries

The Pterodactyl Sentries are soldiers in Lord Drakkon’s Army that wear uniforms based on the MMPR Pink Ranger.
The Pterodactyl Sentries serve as snipers in Lord Drakkon’s Army and are armed with sniper-like blasters.
The Pterodactyl Sentries are retired after Kimberly Hart is given her Pterodactyl Power Coin to become Ranger Slayer.

The Black Dragon Armor is a powerful piece of armor made from the body of the Black Dragon and is used by the Yellow Ranger to regain the Command Center.


Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers (1969)

Comic: Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers
The Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers from 1969 are a group of five teenager recruited by Zordon to prevent a recently awoken Psycho Green from opening Rita Repulsa’s Space Dumpster. They succeed at this at the expense of three casualties, with Grace Sterling & Terona Washington being the sole survivors.


 

Psycho Green

Comic: Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers
Trek is the former Green Supersonic Ranger that is corrupted by Dark Specter after he is talked into killing his entire team. He is sent to release Rita Repulsa from her Space Dumpster but is thwarted by the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers in 1969, where he is presumably destroyed until he resurfaces decades later to reform the Psycho Rangers.


Blue Samurai Sentries

The Blue Samurai Sentries are soldiers in Lord Drakkon’s Army that wear uniforms based on the Blue Samurai Ranger.
The Blue Samurai Sentries is armed with two swords attached to their wrists.


Green Zeo Sentries

The Zeo Green Sentries are soldiers in Lord Drakkon’s Army that wear uniforms based on the Green Zeo Ranger.

Silver Space Sentries

Ranger Emissaries

The Ranger Emissaries are a trio of beings that serve the Morphin’ Masters that are constantly transforming into various Red Rangers, Blue Rangers & Yellow Rangers.
It is later revealed there is also a Green Emissary, Black Emissary & Pink Emissary.


Hyperforce Rangers
(Marvin Shih, Eddie Banks, Chloe Ashford, Vesper Vasquez, Jack D. Thomas & Joe Shih)
Comic: Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers
The Hyperforce Rangers are a group of six Power Rangers based on the animals from greek mythology. They work for Time Force and are sent on various missions throughout the Power Rangers timeline. They are also present when Zordon call for various Power Rangers team to assist in fighting Lord Drakkon’s Army on the Moon.


Dark Ranger
(Heckyl)
Comic: Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers
Heckyl is a inhabitant of the planet, Sentai 6, the resting place of the Dark Energem and is corrupted by it after trying to protect it from Lord Arcanon. He becomes an adversary of the Dino Charge Rangers until he remembers his past, joining them to defeat the intergalactic bounty hunter, Sledge and becoming the guardian of the Dark Energem. He then returns to his restored home planet with the Silver Dino Charge Ranger, Zenowing, who tries to protect him from being corrupted by the Dark Energem again, at the expense of his own life. Heckyl then uses a copy of the Titano Morph Blaster to use the Dark Energem to become the Dark Ranger to defeat Lord Arcanon. He then answers Zordon’s Distress Call and is chosen to be apart of a Six Ranger mission to free the captured Power Rangers on the Moon.


Armored Pink Ranger

Kimberly Hart is given the Dragon Shield to use in the final battle against Lord Drakkon’s Army.


Solar Rangers
(Ari, Kimberly Hart (Coinless), Tanya Sloan, Andros, Mike Corbett, Cam Watanabe, Heckyl & Remi
Comic: Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers
The Solar Ranger are a group of seven Power Rangers that take their powers from the Solarix, a piece of the Morphin’ Grid that originates from The Void.


Omega Rangers
(Jason Lee Scott, Trini Kwan, Zack Taylor, Kiya Kyatyl, Yale & Kevor Vrin)
Comic: Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers

The Omega Rangers are a group of four Power Rangers that are chosen by the Blue Emissary to travel the universe and capture Empowered inside Space Dumpsters. The Blue Omega Ranger, Kiya eventually goes rogue and is replaced by a feline-like alien named Yale.


Dark Rangers
(Rita Repulsa (Putty Clone), Squatt, Baboo, Goldar & Finster)

The Dark Rangers are recreations of the Original Dark Rangers, evil versions of the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers. Lord Zedd gives these powers to four of his minions and a Putty Clone of Rita Repulsa to fight the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers.


Z Ranger

Lord Zedd, through some means obtains a Power Morpher-like device when he enters the Promethea Base, transforming into Z Ranger;


Ranger Slayer

The Ranger Slayer is a corrupted version of Kimberly Hart that is brainwashed by Lord Drakkon to become his evil agent. She is sent to the Main Dimension to destroy the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers in the past until her good counterpart is able to turn her good, where she becomes an agent for good.


Color Swap Rangers

The Color Swap Rangers are an alternate color team of the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers while they are on the planet, Breel.


Green Ranger

Loriyan was a follower of Rita Repulsa that stole the Dragon Power Coin from Ninjor and attempted to keep its power for himself. Rita Repulsa does not take this well and traps him in the Temple Of Repulsa.


Tricera Armor

The Tricera Armor is a powerful piece of triceratops-like armor created by Billy Cranston to use against Rita Repulsa and her evil cohorts. Alpha 5 later uses the Tricera Armor to fight Alpha 1.


Pink Ranger Team
(Kimberly Hart, Zack Taylor, Trini Kwan, Serge & Britt)
Comic: Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers Pink
The Pink Ranger Team is a Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers-esque team of Power Rangers that derives their energy through the Pink Ranger’s energy from the Sword Of Light. They form to prevent Goldar & Verto from turning the populace of France into fish monsters.


Green Ranger Shredder

The Shredder is transforms into an alternate version of the Green Ranger after he obtains the Dragon Power Coin.


Mighty Morphin Turtle Rangers

The Prism Rangers themselves are based off the the Super Sentai team, Chikyu Sentai Fiveman. However, the Green Supersonic Ranger, Trek is an original Power Ranger who becomes Psycho Green after killing his teammates.

Matthew Cook is a student from Angel Grove High School and quarterback of the football team that was a close friend of the five teenagers that became the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers until he learns of their identities after being captured by Rita Repulsa and having him be replaced by a Putty Infiltrator. He was also the boyfriend of Kimberly Hart, the Pink Ranger who breaks up with her prior to Tommy Oliver moving to Angel Grove. That is until he is recruited by Promethea, where he is given an energized Green Power Coin to become the new Green Ranger, keeping his identity secret from the other Power Rangers until he reveals his identity to the world. He then uses his superhero identity to get ahead in life, gaining more time to take tests and complete homework.
